Icelandic Poetry center

The Icelandic Poetry Center, located at Túngata 5 in Siglufjörður, was officially opened on July 8, 2011, by Mrs. Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, the former President of Iceland.


The center houses over a thousand Icelandic poetry books, both old and new, which visitors can enjoy in a cozy atmosphere with a cup of coffee or tea.

Exhibition panels trace the evolution of Icelandic poetry, accompanied by artifacts related to its history.


During the summer, the Poetry Center hosts daily events at 4:00 PM, featuring poetry readings, music, and lectures on poetry.

These events are free of charge and open to the public. In 2021, the Icelandic Poetry Center celebrated its 10th anniversary with a special program.


The Icelandic Poetry Center is unique on a national level, aiming to present Icelandic poetry to its visitors in an engaging and accessible manner.
